Dr. Karim Qayumi, Facilitator
Dr. Qayumi boasts fifty years of teaching experience and is an award-winning innovator, entrepreneur, and teacher. He has achieved many accomplishments as a Director of Research for Cardio-Vascular Surgery, Editor in Chief of the Journal of Investigative Surgery, Founder and Director of the Centre of Excellence for Simulation Education and Innovation at the University of British Columbia. He is also the Chair of Technology-enabled Learning and Regional Director for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Qayumi is also the Founder and CEO of CanHealth International, a registered Canadian non-profit charity that aims to equalize health education between developed and developing countries
Dr. Shahriar Hosseinzadeh, Moderator
Is an experienced and well-respected paediatrician with over 20 years of experience in diverse medical care settings from Iran. He is also a certified Genetic Preventive counselor. He’s mainly interested in genetics and pediatric cardiology and has written several articles on these topics. After moving to Canada in 2017, he has been volunteering in the Centre of Excellence for Simulation Education and Innovation (CESEI) and has dedicated most of his time focusing on technology- related research and innovation. He believes that innovation and technology are fundamental factors contributing to enhancing the quality of medical education. He is currently the medical team leader of an educational project known as “CyberPatient”, an ultimate
tool to develop and evrify medical students’ competencies for clinical practice.
